Memo ~ As of December 22nd 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly impacted the way we live and our day to day operations. With that being said, every organization is different and there are many things to consider when new government mandates are issued that will impact and affect each organization or business differently.

As it stands, we are in the "Red Zone.

Prior to being in the “red zone” we were able to operate on a 50-person max capacity, so we had reduced class sizes and no more than 45 people max total (as a buffer) in our facility at one time. We were previously able to run more than just 1 or 2 programs at a time with a 50 person max rule.

Now that we have moved into (and remain in) the red zone, with a 10 person max rule, having over 2-3 competitive groups in each evening and 4-7 recreational groups at a time, we could evidently not meet the new red zone requirements operating how we were.

Normally, we have over 500 children registered in our facilities between our competitive and recreational programs and we operate on a much larger scale with several programs than other local organizations.

That being said, we directly seek the advice of Gymnastics Ontario, Provincial Mandates and our local public health unit, with information relative to our facility, to see what we can reasonably and safely do with the new parameters that is not breaking any rules and that is keeping the health and safety of all patrons as the number one priority. That being said, The Provincial legislation very clearly indicates that (sport facilities while in the “red zone”) must operate at a  10 max per entire facility and in good faith we’re adhering to this Provincial mandate.

As we lead into the Holidays where there is the likelihood of gatherings, and while still remaining in the red-zone, we have made the decision as an organization that due to the volume of our programming, we cannot feasibly and safely meet the requirements of the provincial mandate, thus our decision to suspend the Recreational Winter 2021 Session until further notice.

Since no communication was issued as per timeline by the government as to how long we will be in the “red zone”, we are taking it day by day and will respond quickly once communication has been issued or if our status changes.

We look forward to getting our session up and running as soon as we can do so safely.

Covid 19 Update - Competitive Training and Summer Camps

  • Category: HGCC News

June 24, 2020

The Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre is planning to offer modified Summer Camp programs as scheduled, and we are especially excited after the province of Ontario announced summer camps will go ahead, with strict health and safety restrictions in place.  Please take a moment to view our protocol video.

Here at the he Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre, we have been diligently following our new protocols with our competitive program training and are committed to continuing to ensure the safety of all participants and staff. In anticipation of offering camp programs, we are diligently planning camp activities that will comply with new health and safety restrictions, including physical distancing for games, activities and other camp fun.

Camp this year will commence the week of July 20th and run for 6 weeks.

Camper to Coach Ratio will be 1:5.

Camp is being offered as a half day morning program only from 9am-12pm.

Camp is for ages 6-12.

As noted, HHGC was permitted by the province to resume training for our competitive members as of June 15, and we did so with very strategic Covid-19 safety and cleaning protocols in place. These safety and cleaning protocols will naturally carry over to all other programs and classes that HHGC will offer, including Summer Camp.

We have secured a cleaning product called Vital-Oxide (hospital grade disinfectant) and technology, including a fogger machine sprayer, which are all approved to kill Covid-19 and are safe for use. We also have a non contact thermometer scanner on site to screen for fevers. The same attention to detail will most certainly be applied to our recreational programs and camps.

We are doing our absolute best to find our way forward in this period of “new normal”. Our community’s children deserve to experience the physical and social benefits of sport and recreation and we’ll be here waiting for them.

We are looking forward to seeing smiling faces back in the gym for camp

Halton Hills Gymnastic Centre – Closures update

May 15th, 2020 – 2:00 pm

The Ontario Government has announced it's list of businesses that will be able to open as part of the Phase 1 plan.   Gymnastics has been given the go ahead to  re-open  competitive training as of next week.  HHGC will be working very hard over the next couple of weeks to make sure we follow the guidlines and have the proper procedures in place to open our doors and ensure the safety of all our athletes and staff.

A re-open date has not been set yet but we are working on it.  Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

April 4th, 2020 update

First and foremost, the safety and wellbeing of our gymnasts, families, staff and coaches remain our top priority. At this time, the public health risk still remains relatively low according to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).  However, based on the declaration of the World Health Organization that COVID-19 is a pandemic and the decision to close all public schools in Ontario including those of the Halton District School Board, the Halton Hills Gymnastics Centre is taking swift and decisive action to protect our community and help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In consultation with our senior staff and Board Executive we have made the difficult but necessary decision to suspend all programs and activities from March 14th – May 4th, 2020.

As a non-profit organization that exists for the benefit of our community, HHGC has already taken many extra precautions and steps to mitigate the spread of this disease.  This includes extensive cleaning of our facility, installation of additional hand sanitizers and educating our members in safe hygiene practices while at the gym.  It is important that everyone do their part in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

HHGC will make every effort to respond to individual calls and e-mails.  However, due to the major disruption in service, the volume of customer inquiries and extensive planning required to suspend programs and communicate to participants, response times for inquires will be much longer than usual.

Parents of HHGC gymnasts will receive personal e-mails containing information about the status of their specific program when applicable.

We deeply appreciate your understanding as we navigate the challenging circumstances related to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor this evolving situation and communicate updates as they become available. Please check our website (haltonhillsgymnastics.com) as well as our Facebook and Instagram pages regularly for the latest information regarding the closure of HHGC facilities and programs.
